Sue Us? We’ll Show You
Posted by Greg under News
I’ve been pretty easy on IBM since the big layoff news last year. I just kind of took their behavior toward employees (regular layoffs to ‘thin the herd’) as typical of the way business is in the US now. IBM choosing to cut 8,000 employees’ pay by 15% in response to lawsuits seems particularly callous, detached and oblivious (at first I had dastardly but it made me smile too much for this instance). Anyhow, IBM stands to save $5,000,000 by making this change. That’s million with an M. IBM has sales around the $100 Billion with a B. Admired companies don’t act this way. I get the impression that IBM is concerned only with the perception of behaving admirably, but not really being a company worthy of admiration. Before doing something like that, top brass should ask themselves if they would admire it if they saw it in another company. It’s tacky to brag about record earnings and then cut the pay for the people responsible. I understand the plight of companies like Ford who need to fix an unsustainable cost structure, but this really is a different animal. I can’t defend this.

I really appreciate your comments on what is going on at IBM. Let me give you a brief view of my world with IBM, I have to wonder how many other people see this as well. We were forced to work overtime, even though the customer said “NO”! Eventually, the customer terminated IBM, but, they knew IBM would throw us away for all our hard work and dedication. So, they hired us, now we are in positions to make sure IBM never has anymore business with this large global company. My heart goes out to the ones they cut, as it would of been me, I know. I really am praying for these people, as I suffered years of humilation and being a slave for IBM, with no rewards, no education, no raises, as I see it, a very corrupt business, that these people need help, IBM will only keep retaliating, and the government does nothing, it is all so sad, eventually, the way I see it, they will keep loosing business,(I’ve seen several big contracts in my area also get terminated this past year), and then, when the workers are gone, who will do the work? Please help these people, Please!

And now the periodic layoffs are begining at IBM to cut costs even further. With the reduciton in staff, management is not planing fo rthe overtime that will now occur (at time and a half). With cost over runs, the porject office will be forced to eliminate or pull back on all overtime. The resutl being work not getting done and employees not having the chance to work the 5 hours of overtime weekly to bring their salaries back up.
