Layoffs Continue, 3000 plus in May
Posted by Greg under News
Layoffs continue at IBM, this time it seems concentrated on GTS (Global Technology Services) employees, with 1600 more anounced May 30th. IBM didn’t disclose where they were, but according to local news, about 100 of those are in Triangle, 50 in Colorado, a dozen or so in Endicott, 72 in MA and 25 in South Florida.
An anonymous IBMer metioned to me that there were 1000+ in Atlanta earlier this month, but I didn’t see that confirmed anywhere. It seems like that size of number would have been all over the AJC.

I was one of those booted out the door in May. My team was 14 strong. Now 5 remain with 4 in India. IBM is shifting its resources to cheaper global labor. They can color it however they like, but I know what I saw happening.
The 4 in India were being trained on everything.
The layoffs were pretty wide spread. No job position was safe.

I was also kicked out the door on May 31st. IBM applied for the same amount of L1 visas as the people that they laid off. Also they are training the people from India. Every year we were told that there is no money in the budget for training. They want low wage employees with no experience and they are telling the customers they are getting the same quality of service. A department just won an award for quality of service and where did they lay off the people from ?
