Okay, after a month or so of blogging here, I’ve got a bit more of an idea about the type of content I want to cover.

After a 2 week holiday I found I had over 300 hits in my RSS reader watch lists on topics I might want to blog about. Going through them, there are many interesting topics there, but I can’t possibly do them all justice. So I’m going to focus a little more and apply the “less is more” principle.

I’ve simplified my category list, and will be focussing my blog more on the business and financial performance side of IBM, and on the people who work for IBM. I figure there are plenty of IBM tech blogs out there (heck, I right one of them myself - the Workplace Channel), but not many that focus on the bigger picture of IBM. And it is big. Very big!

So, my simplified category list should give you a bit more of an idea about where I intend to focus:

  • Acquisitions: Who have IBM bought this week ?
  • Community: IBM in the community - both the technical community and in the outside world.
  • General: Miscellaneous news about IBM
  • Humour: The lighter side of IBM
  • Interviews: Interviews of or by IBMers
  • Litigation: IBM in the courts
  • People: About the people who make IBM what it is - IBMers
  • Performance: Commentary on the financial and market peformance of IBM: revenues, stock prices, marketshare etc.
  • Speculation: Rumours, scuttlebut, and stuff that’s probably not true. Then again, perhaps it is!

… of course might change a bit in the future!

The Community category will be used for discussion about the various technical communities IBM is involved in - including open source and open standards communities. This might get a little technical at times, but I still think it’s a worthwhile topic to cover.

With the People category I aim to focus on interviews of IBMers (or by IBMers), and indeed, I hope to start doing my own interviews where I can.

The Performance category is a catch-all for financial performance discussion, sharemarket performance, and even just general news on marketshare and other such items that reflect how well IBM is doing.
