Perhaps I was right to hate HP in my earlier post. HP’s Richard Fichera goes to town mocking IBM in the blade server arena. His blog, The Eye on Blades (clearly a veiled yet lesser attempt to duplicate this eye on IBM blog*) mocks IBM for being "publicly irritable, combative, and occasionally rash."

IBM touts its advantages over HP here, including such things as power conservation, cost to operate and processor speed. Furthermore, IBM offers to buy your HP blade for a couple grand and replace your chassis for next to nothing if you buy enough blades. Computerworld notes that IBM has 20%+ more units installed, so all the talk about IBM being the #2 dog may be premature.

Fichera does correctly identify the inadequacy I was feeling in my I hate HP post, but the tables have turned so much since then, with IBM soaring and HP licking its chops after snooping scandals, that Fichera seems guilty of doing the same.

* I’m joking obviously
