Yoda as IBM’s CEO
CIO magazine has a fun story about if Yoda was CEO of IBM. His point, in a very round about way is that companies like IBM need to change the way they price and evaluate success to have success in the small / medium business space.
Not only are the IBMs of the world leaving money […]

IBM still makes the fastest supercomputers
I wrote last year about how Sun was poised to knock IBM off of it’s pedestal, but IBM once again retained the top couple spots. HP got embarrassed as well. This list completely doesn’t matter, but it’s a fun way to compare the top companies and IBM gets a lot of good press […]

It’s Official: IBM buys Cognos
There’s been talk about this sale for years. I personally didn’t really think it was going to happen until all the consolidation in the BI space this past year. Cognos was the big dog, a long-time IBM partner, and I think IBM needed to pick them up if only to keep others from […]

Big Blue/Green Saves Money by Recycling Silicon
IBM has found a new process whereby they can clean and reuse silicon that would otherwise be thrown away. I believe that they’re the first company to have a process to salvage the imperfect wafers. During the talks to renew IBM’s Italian internal collective agreement, an employee group asked for a salary increase, prompting IBM to cancel their “productive results benefit”, resulting in a loss of more than $1300 / year per employee. This prompted a majority of IBM Italy employees to vote to strike in Second Life for […]

SCO files for Bankruptcy, cites “Potential Legal Challenges”
SCO Group today filed for bankruptcy protection. With less than $10m cash left to call on, SCO said that Chapter 11 protection and reorganization would protect assets as it addresses, ahem, “potential financial and legal challenges”.
I love it!

Does IBM Cause Cancer?
Government funding was approved today for a study into whether working for IBM disproportionately increases your risk for cancer.
Federal scientists will have money to proceed with a monumental study of cancer rates among 28,000 IBM-Endicott employees that will advance science about illness and chemical exposure, U.S. Rep. Maurice Hinchey said Thursday.
Hinchey, a member […]

IBM helps the UN IDP
UPDATE:
Thanks to that special someone who sent me the logo. Here she is:
ORIGINAL:
I got an anonymous ‘tip’ from a user to look into IBM’s work developing a new mascot / logo / creature for the IDP initiative. I couldn’t find any mention of this but I did see this, where IBM is providing […]

IBM History Video
Here’s a neat video on the history of IBM. A student in China produced it as a project. If you’re interested and new to the company, it might be worth 3 minutes.
